A Medical Doctor by qualification and Environmentalist by passion, Dr. Vaman Acharya has been a successful Serial Entrepreneur since more than three and a half decades. His interests and experience are chiefly in the fields of waste-management and bio-fuels. He has headed the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board as its Chairman from 2012 to 2015 and has many innovative and effectively implemented schemes to his credit.
Dr Acharya is a pioneer who set up Municipal waste processing and composting unit in Bangalore way back in 1996. Extending the scope to the non-hazardous industrial wastes, he has demonstrated a successful business model for sustainable waste management. Dr Acharya is pivotal not only at diverting thousands of Tons of wastes from landfills but also at enriching the Indian soil with much needed organic carbon with compost.
Since his younger days, he has been an activist. He has participated in the Save Western Ghats movement and Sharavathi Tailrays movement, whereby the State’s attention was drawn towards the cause of forest protection. Recognizing his qualification, ability and passion, Dr. Acharya was appointed as the Chairman of the Karnataka State Pollution Board, where he successfully implemented schemes of far-reaching consequences. He has also been the member of the Central Pollution Control Board and Environment Clearance Committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. He is presently a member of the Regional Empowered Committee, South Zone, under the Ministry of Environment & Forests, tasked with infrastructure projects.
He has also been a Social and Political activist. He has held responsible positions in Bharatiya Janata Party at State and National levels. His advice and guidance is much sought after in the fields of entrepreneurship, administration, rural development, environment protection and bio-fuels.
